Ensuring Environmental Protection

Waste facilities regulated by an Environmental Permit are required to document the physical permit area, the construction and layout of the site and all its operations in detail in an Environmental Management System or EMS. This document demonstrates how an operator will maintain environmental protection while performing the permitted waste activities, as required by the conditions of the Environmental Permit.

The Environment Agency may request the EMS during routine site visits as a means of cross-checking compliance.
